Experimental comedies and documentaries, face-to-face artist talk with audience. Shorts and talks by flm maker and media artist Maarit Suomi-Väänänen (b. 1966 Finland) whose works have been seen in exhibitons, at festivals and on TV in 40 countries.
A Datsun 100A, a chainsaw man, two swans, three bottles, a spraying bomb and a dotty couple – all of them on an adventure inside an absurd arctic soulscape. Something has caused everyday normality to veer off course. Why the snowy Datsun 100A is driving in the summer, and why has the duck gone blueberry-picking? Can a desert island be inside a forest? Who is bombing the toys? Why a sewage is swinging? Will the tree fall, and if so, which way…?
SUPER NORTH is influenced by where and how it is showcased. It takes on various incarnations, such as a retrospective screening, master class, artist talk, film debate or is exhibited in a gallery setting as a video installation.
